Painting
I started the project out by painting all of the wall sections.
The section at left is plaster and the section at right is half plaster/
half plastic. I mention this because I deal with the two wall types
differently. With plastic, I use a primer coat- usually a spray coat
of oxide red or primer grey. With plaster, I like to be able to vary
the paint color by letting the white show through the base coat.
Plaster will soak up acrylics like crazy though, so I first sprayed
them will a coat of clear.
Because the walls were plaster and I
wanted to vary the color, I used the James Powell method of using cheap
acrylics (found at any arts/crafts store). Any darker red shade will
work well- just don't go too dark because the later steps will darken the
walls even more. I believe I used oxide red on this project. |
